Based on the M-1943 field jacket, the M-1951 Field Jacket was produced by the US Army in 1951, following the transitional M-50 version. Earlier models used buttons, but starting with the M-1951, snap fasteners and zippers were introduced. The M-1951 featured a standing collar for cold protection, a detail carried over into the later M-1965 field jacket. It also had button cuffs, a pointed collar, and a separate hood that buttoned onto the collar.
