The "Coat,Mackinaw, OD", also known as the "Jeep Coat", was first released in 1938 (called the "first pattern") and was intended for use by troops who were infrequently move in cold weather, such as drivers. Mackinaw has a water resistant cotton duck shell with wool blankets inside. The distinguishing feature of the first Mackinaw was the 30-ounce blanket lining that extended significantly over the shawl collar.
